WARRIOR I POSE

Virabhadra, the great warrior, is the manifestation of Shiva's grief and anger. He appears at the fire ceremony to take a revenge on Daksha for Sati's death.

VIRABHADRASANA I

Represents Virabhadra as he emerged up from under the ground, sword clasped in both hands with arms overhead and gaze upwards.

This is a powerful and demanding pose that develops resistance, coordination & balance.

PHYSICAL BENEFITS

- Opens up chest & hips - Strengthens legs, shoulders and spine - Stretches arms & legs - Increases core strength - Removes strain in lower back

TIPS

- Initially, keep your hands at the hips & focus on the actions in the legs and belly before reaching up / back-bending - Tight hips: step your feet as wide apart as necessary, this will give you more room to square the hips as you work on gaining flexibility

KEEP IN MIND

- Avoid in case of heart problems, high blood pressure or recent injuries of hips, knees, back or shoulders - Shoulder problems: keep arms parallel (or slightly wider) to each other - Neck problems: keep the head in a neutral position and do not look up
